MTD is searching for an Assistant Facilities Director. This position oversees the maintenance of all facilities, facility-related equipment, machinery, and systems. The position plans and schedules facility maintenance, repairs, and modifications to provide a safe and clean environment for all users. This is a salaried position with an excellent benefit package which includes a state pension plan.

Education Requirements

A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Business, Facility Management, or a related field is required.  

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in a related work setting is required.    
  • Prior experience in supervising, directing, and/or training employees is required.    
  • Specific training and/or experience in facilities management or a related field, preferably in a senior management position, is preferred.  
  • Hold, or obtain after hire, an Illinois Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and airbrake endorsement is preferred.  
  • Hold, or obtain within six months of hire, an OSHA 30-hour General Industry Card.  


  • Trains, schedules, assigns, and reviews work of building maintenance personnel and interacts with outside contractors to ensure a safe and comfortable environment 
  • Monitors the condition of MTD facilities through personal observations, a review of preventative maintenance and repair records, blueprints, and incident reports 
  • Uses MTD software to track assets to ensure all preventative maintenance is being performed on time according to requirement   
  • Retains up-to-date and readily accessible documentation of all maintenance records performed inhouse and by vendors 
  • Schedules any needed building or asset maintenance with vendors to stay in compliance with the preventative maintenance requirements 
  • Oversees and inspects construction of facilities and facility systems installation progress to ensure outside contractor work is completed in a safe and timely manner 
  • Responds to emergency situations either in-person or by phone as needed  
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic, integrity, and discretion in all areas and accepts responsibility for problems and the implementation of corrective actions 
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of the practices, work methods, tools, and equipment used in the building maintenance trade and the ability to train and evaluate staff in proper maintenance and repair procedures 
  • Maintains environmental compliance programs such as SSPP and SWPP with regular review and updating as needed 
  • Performs hands-on minor repair and maintenance as needed in all facilities

Work Hours

Work shifts vary from day to night, as needed. MTD operates seven days a week, including weekends and holidays, and this position may require some work outside of traditional business hours.

Physical Demands

Position functions in indoor and outdoor settings, including a maintenance / bus garage and various office buildings. Employee must be able to use a variety of equipment and tools for up to 8 hours per day, up to 5 days per week. Physical requirements include stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, squatting/crouching, crawling/kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing and descending ladders and stairs, reaching above shoulders, and lifting and transporting heavy objects such as equipment. Position requires ability to talk and hear; use vision to read printed materials and make repairs; arm, hand, and finger dexterity to operate tools and access information.  

This is considered a Heavy-Work position, and employee must exert between 50 – 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 – 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 – 20 pounds of force to constantly move objects. Employee must possess the ability to move heavier weights as needed with assistance and/or the proper equipment.  

Work Environment 

Position involves working in office, maintenance garage, and outdoor settings, including in confined spaces and on rooftops. Noise levels are moderate to loud and may require hearing protection. Employee will work in controlled temperature settings, hot or cold temperatures, or in inclement weather. Employee will be subject to air and noise pollutants, chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. There are frequent interruptions to workflow and an expectation to hold and attend meetings on a regular basis.

Starting Salary: $70,000 - $85,000
