Spring Semester Brings Changes to Campus-Oriented Service | Sunday, January 24, 2021

MTD service on and near the University of Illinois campus will be changing with the start of the University’s Spring Semester on Sunday, January 24, 2021, bringing with it reductions to the campus service MTD would otherwise provide in a pre-pandemic semester.

Spring Semester MTD service and frequency will mimic the service model that has been in place over Winter Break, but will also include 22/220 Illini and Illini Limited service, though with modified service hours and slightly altered trip times and frequencies. SafeRides Connect service hours will be reduced throughout the semester, ending at 12:30AM, with final reservations taken until 12:00AM. SafeRides will not operate between 12:30AM and 6:30AM during this service reduction.

There will also be no Late Night service on any route. Routes will operate through the end of their Weekday Evening schedules, with last trips concluding before 1:00AM.

The decision to make these changes to service were made in concert with the University and other community partners after extensive analysis of service demand, workforce availability, and alternate scheduling implemented as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic response.

Providing reliable service that our passengers can plan their lives around is elemental to the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District. With these reductions to our full Spring Semester service, MTD can ensure the consistent provision of our fixed-route bus service and ADA Paratransit trips, maintain the ability to deploy additional vehicles to respond quickly to capacity issues, and continue to be responsive to evolving community transportation needs.

The details on the routes and schedules affected by these changes are listed below, and are also available on our website, mtd.org, and through our passenger tools, like real-time information and our Trip Planner. Passengers consulting our print materials, like our Maps & Schedules Book, are advised to double check their trips and connections using these online tools or by calling 217.384.8188.
