MTD is looking for an Advertising Specialist. The Advertising Specialist is responsible for the sale and management of MTD’s public facing advertising spaces, as well as partnerships for sponsorship/trade. The Advertising Specialist prospects clients, negotiates and drafts advertising contracts, manages inventory, and coordinates the production, installation, and removal of advertising campaigns.

Education Requirements

  • An associate degree or equivalent work experience of two years in business, marketing, communications, sales, public relations, graphic design, business, community engagement, or a related field is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience of four years is preferred. 

Experience Requirements

Proficient computer and software skills, including Microsoft Office is required, and experience with content management systems like those used to update web content and send email newsletters, is preferred. 

Responsibilities

  • Market, sell, and coordinate MTD’s advertising spaces and programs including bus, van, passenger information kiosks, Illinois Terminal, and Maps & Schedules Book 
  • Provide quality customer service to current and prospective clients, as well as proactively build relationships with community organizations, local associations, educational institutions, and businesses to promote advertising programs and overall District goodwill  
  • Maintain knowledge of local organizations and a desire to engage in initiatives to build a stronger community 
  • Understand and make recommendations for advertising rates, bundled packages, and/or leveraging partnership opportunities 
  • Review all advertisements before posting to ensure compliance with MTD’s Advertising Policy, Media Kit, and Wrap Policy 
  • Upload and maintain passenger information kiosk advertisements at high-density MTD stops  
  • Maintain databases to track advertising inventory, advertising clients, dates of contracted advertisements, schedule installation and removal, provide clients with proof of posting, and other needs that result from the advertising process 
  • Prepare and distribute monthly sales reports 
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Department for installation and removal of fleet advertisements 
  • Coordinate contract billing with the Finance Department 
  • Issue advertising customer satisfaction surveys and provide summary information for continual improvement 
  • Coordinate with the Marketing Department to identify opportunities to leverage current clients, upcoming events, and awareness campaigns on MTD’s social media and community engagement 
  • Schedule and coordinate external advertising campaigns with the Marketing Department (e.g. news sites, television, radio) when necessary

Work Hours

Normal working hours are 8AM - 5PM, Monday - Friday

Work shifts vary from day to night, as needed. MTD operates seven days a week, including weekends and holidays, and this position may require some work outside of traditional business hours.

Work Environment

The work environment involves exposure to conditions generally found in an office setting in a shared workspace. The noise level is quiet to moderate. There are frequent interruptions to this position’s workflow and there is an expectation to hold and attend meetings on a regular basis. This position is predominantly located in one office building, but the position will sometimes require an employee to visit other locations to meet with employees or attend training and meetings, including Illinois Terminal, Administrative Office Building, Maintenance Garage, or other off-site locations. Occasionally, the employee may need to work outdoors in inclement weather. 

Physical Demands

The exertion level required for this position is generally considered light work. Physical requirements include stooping, bending, standing, squatting/crouching, pushing/pulling, and reaching above shoulders. While performing the duties of this job, employees are often required to sit, with regular periods of walking and standing; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; use vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally or a up to 10 lbs. of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Starting Salary: $53,500 - $62,500/based on experience
