MTD is looking a new Technology Support Specialist. This position acts as a first line of support for District technology users. The person in this position will support the Lead Technology Support Specialist with helpdesk responsibilities, network documentation and troubleshooting, application support, patch management, device provisioning, and hardware and software inventory.

Education Requirements

An associate degree or equivalent experience in Network Administration, Helpdesk Support, or a related field is preferred. 

Experience Requirements

Experience with the following technologies is preferred: Microsoft Windows 11; Microsoft Office 365; basic networking concepts including OSI Model, DNS, and DHCP.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Lead Technology Support Specialist to provide front-line support for District technology users. Provide timely responses to user’s needs and helpdesk tickets. 
  • Assist with regular preventative maintenance on District workstations and technology equipment.  
  • Assist Lead Technology Support Specialist with support of passenger information kiosks and management of user accounts and licensing. 
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation. 
  • Work with Lead Technology Support Specialist and Technology Services Director to manage end user device inventory and provision devices for end users. 
  • Engage in computer-based training (CBT) or other eLearning assigned by Technology Services Director. 
  • Crosstrain in other Technology Services functions in order to assist with covering duties during departmental personnel absences.

Work Hours

  • General work hours for this position will be Monday - Friday, from 8:00AM - 5:00PM. 
  • Work shifts vary from day to night, as needed. MTD operates seven days a week, including weekends and holidays, and this position may require some work outside of traditional business hours.

Physical Demands

The exertion level required for this position is generally considered light work. Physical requirements include stooping, bending, standing, squatting/crouching, pushing/pulling, and reaching above shoulders. While performing the duties of this job, employees are often required to sit, with regular periods of walking and standing; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; use vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally or a up to 10 lbs. of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. 

Work Environment

The work environment involves exposure to conditions generally found in an office setting. The noise level is quiet to moderate. There are frequent interruptions to this position’s workflow and there is an expectation to hold and attend meetings on a regular basis. This position is predominantly located in one office building, but the position will sometimes require an employee to visit other locations to meet with employees or attend training and meetings, including the Illinois Terminal, Administrative Office Building, Maintenance Garage, or other off-site locations. Occasionally, the employee may need to work outdoors in inclement weather.

Starting Salary: $56,000 - $61,000, based on experience
