MTD is planning mobility and access for an entire region, now and for the future. MTD & the City of Urbana are working together to study the feasibility of an economic development project that incorporates an off-street transit facility with an intergovernmental center.
The proposed Project includes construction of a 50,000 square foot, mixed-use transit facility that will be up to three stories, with the following features:
- 13 sawtooth bus bays on a transit-only bus drive that will accommodate 40-foot and 60-foot articulated buses;
- Indoor transit waiting areas, restrooms, vending areas, and customer service area;
- Bicycle parking and repair station;
- A drivers’ lounge and drivers’ restrooms for layovers;
- Transit office space; and
- Approximately 35,000 square feet of office space for intergovernmental lease or purchase through a condominium purchase agreement.
The future design of the transit facility will need to meet the transportation purpose of the project, federal requirements for mixed-use transportation facilities, and existing and future operational requirements. Design has not yet started on the proposed facility.
