Veterans To Ride MTD at No Charge with New Veteran Pass, Available January 2, 2018

Ahead of Veteran’s Day on November 11, the Board of Trustees of the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) has unanimously approved the addition of an MTD Veteran Pass. Beginning January 2018, MTD will offer a free, unlimited, 3-year bus pass to any veteran who presents a State of Illinois-issued identification card or driver’s license carrying an official “Veteran” designation, a Military Retirement Card, a VA ID card, or the combination of a DD214 and valid State of Illinois ID card or Driver’s License.

“We are very happy to be able to offer this pass,” said MTD Managing Director Karl Gnadt. “We are grateful for the service to our country and community that veterans have selflessly given, and we hope to provide support to local veterans by increasing access and opportunity in some small way.”

Using 2015 Census Bureau data, MTD has estimated that there are over 2500 eligible veterans residing in the District and looks forward to this opportunity to serve those who’ve served. Veterans and others who would like more information can contact Lisa Meid at 217.384.8188 or lmeid@cumtd.com.
