The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) has been awarded $6,635,394 from the Low- and No-Emission competitive grant program for the purchase of ten, 40-foot diesel electric hybrid replacement buses.

Employees on our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee worked collaboratively to create a Juneteenth Mobile Exhibit. The inside of the bus has nearly 40 unique displays and will be in service on randomly assigned routes today through the end of July 2023.

The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District was honored with the award for “most innovative" transit agency by the Federal Transit Administration on Earth Day, 2022.

Due to weight limit restrictions preventing buses from traveling on Washington between Scottswood and MacArthur, MTD’s 5E/W Green and 70 E/W Grey Evening, Saturday, and Sunday routes are rerouted. The length of these reroutes is unknown.

The Champaign Urbana Mass Transit District is excited to be a founding member of the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus Council (HFC Bus Council), with MTD's Managing Director/CEO, Karl Gnadt, serving as their Board President.

Due to daily fluctuations in staffing, we’ve been forced to make service reductions on a day-to-day basis. Beginning Monday, October 4, these reductions are being put in place until further notice.

MTD will resume fare enforcement with the start of MTD’s new Service Year on Sunday, August 15. Beginning Thursday, July 15, passengers are invited to resume front door boarding. Front door boarding will be required when fare enforcement resumes in August.

MTD has published An Environmental Assessment (EA)for its proposed Illinois Terminal Expansion Project, a transformational project that will reduce bus congestion, improve reliability, create a safer pedestrian environment, and enhance regional connectivity.

Riders of MTD’s 22 Illini route will be impacted by the closure of Oak St. between Anthony Dr. and Kenyon Rd. beginning Monday, March 15, 2021. MTD’s 22 Illini will only travel as far north as Killarney St., and bus stops north of I-74 will not be served.

MTD's Bike Box Rap video shows cyclists and motorists what to do in and near the new Bike Boxes in Campustown. New to the University of Illinois Campus in Fall 2018, Bike Boxes were installed as part of the MCORE Project and are designed to help keep cyclists safe.

A $1.45 million competitive Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant has been awarded to the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) for the purchase of no-emission, hydrogen fuel cell electric buses and associated infrastructure.

Beginning January 2018, MTD will offer a free, unlimited, 3-year bus pass to veterans.

The Token Transit app, available on iOS and Android, will allow passengers to purchase one trip, or a student, monthly, annual or Saturday/Sunday pass, with a credit card on the app (or with cash at MTD’s Illinois Terminal in downtown Champaign).
